Abuse on The Forums, still a big issue? Redgie

Just a short article this week, as I’ve been busy re-ranking.

But nevertheless an important issue, it seems that even though Melabo carried out his ruthless forum whore kills, perhaps another visit is required after the sheer amount of abuse that goes on in the forums.

I realised exactly what was going on when I visited a thread in the off topic forum, concerning a new underground crew that was recruiting, and I was shocked to see the amount of abuse it got. So much in fact, that it eventually drove the owner of the thread to lock it and walk away.

As far as I am concerned this sort of thing is horrible. People are being put off from the very start, when a new player makes a thread asking for money, and is greeted with such comments as “Go away! Nobody likes a nooby beggar!”

Understandably, a lot of people do jump to the conclusion that it is in fact a regular player, trying to get sympathy cash and send it to their main account, but rather than jump to what is sometimes extremely ludicrous conclusions, and hurl abuse at innocent people, why do we not take a minute to explain to the person exactly how they may go out and earn their own money, instead of abusing them all the way off the game.

Another one of the main situations for abuse that I have seen is people asking for ranking info. So I decided to ask how many OC’s it was to Assassin, and study the reactions I got. Thankfully I received a straight answer form somebody, and a general joke at nobody’s expense, the kind if thing you expect to see when visiting the forums. But when I looked around at some of the other topics, I found such comments as “Stupid pointless thread this is.”, and “Lemme rephrase, just people who make threads which annoy me in some way are stupid and pointless.” Now I’m not here to name names, and I’m not here to make examples of people, I am simply using these examples for the purpose of showing you my point.

And so unless we all want to see more shootings, or some kind of filter put on the forums, I suggest we stop showing off, and be nice for a change, because someday, believe it or not, we were all once like them, even if we didn’t beg for cash.
