Poker - Splits and Straights CaptainPlanet

I love playing poker like the rest of you. Again, one of the better ways to win money in the game of Bootleggers. However, I am not here to tell you how I think you should gamble your money. I am here to bring you information about the problems of BL poker.

First we take a look at the infamous poker bug. The poker bug is a simple bug that can only send split pots to first and second players. There is no way around this phenomenon, and the only way you are going to get your money back is if you have an honest player as player 1 or 2. I will always send my money back, because it’s hard not to notice that your money spiked from 400k to 900k for you apparently doing nothing.

What I feel that people should do when they receive this money is to give it back to the people that it belongs to. Do you think you would like it if someone kept your well-earned money from a poker game that you should have won? No. And if you say that you should always be player 1 or 2 so this will never happen to you, I say that if everyone was only 1 or 2, then no poker game would ever start. Just thoughts as to how the BL community should react to the poker bug.

However, there is another tiny little problem inside the poker game.

A few times this reset I’ve seen the topic “I selected A-2-3-4-5 and it only said I had a high card!” I have had this happen to me in a small max bet game, and I decided to try and find out why A-2-3-4-5 does not count as a straight.

The key is to again, look at the properties of the cards. Here I have the cards from 2 to Ace of spades and their properties. You don’t need to look at them, just notice the number value that they give.

Now, as we can see the numbers for Jack are 11, Queen is 12, King is 13, and Ace is 14. Now, a straight is said to be 5 cards in a row. If we were to use the numbers A-2-3-4-5 for the cards, we see that the property numbers 14-2-3-4-5 are not 5 numbers in a row. Therefore, the game only sees it as 14-5-4-3-2, or High Card with an Ace. This is the precise problem, that the Ace is represented by the number 14. The Ace does not count as either a 1 or a 14, but only a 14. The game does this because we know that the highest pair are those of Aces, so they must count them as the highest card. Even though I feel that this should be fixed, I feel that it is a fair trade to get a high pair of Aces over a low pair of Aces and the slim possibilities of an A-2-3-4-5 straight. It is a lot more common to get a pair of Aces over an A-2-3-4-5.

So, if you ever get an A-2-3-4-5, I hope that you remember this article and see it for what it is, and fold or select different cards for your hand. And I also hope that if you do get the money from a split pot by being players 1 or 2, that you give the money back to the owners out of common courtesy. Just ask the question: “What would I want someone to do if they got my money from a Poker game?"

This is CaptainPlanet, unraveling the mysteries of the Bootleggers Casino's.
