The Apprentice of an old Menace? CavuVII

On the ninth of August, Sabin made a Game Forum Sticky stating that there was a new Picture Hack. As usual for something of this magnitude, he advised that players should use the verify pictures feature and log off before viewing any outside link.

Hacks of this magnitude have come and gone like most other bugs within the game. Fortunately, Bootleggers as a whole was ready for this strike on the game. According to DrJoris, there were really two hacks; one that took all of a player’s money and the other that hitlisted the player. This would explain the rumor of the hacked money being used to hitlist one of The Deadly Alliance's members, but as there is no evidence to back this up, it cannot be taken as fact.

Unfortunately for the players that were hacked, these players cannot have any assets refunded, and have only themselves to blame. For your safety, you should have images turned off, or verify images to keep your account safe. Don’t go to links you don’t trust, because chances are, if the link isn’t from an image-hosting site trusted by players (www.imageshack.us, www.photobucket.com, www.tinypic.com) it could be a hack.

After the picture hacks were known and fixed, an old feature returned. Using the IMG bb-code was now once again allowed on the forums. Clicking an image would send a player to a warning site, giving the player a choice to continue without logging off, or logging off prior to continuing. This should ensure that all players make their own wise decisions when visiting outside links.

Thanks to the Bootleggers community, there isn’t much to report. Keep on playing safe. It is your responsibility to keep your account and information safe. Don’t do anything that could possibly jeopardize the fun you’re having while playing Bootleggers!
