The Yellow Suit FrickOnAStick

Ah, my first article back. Back; it feels great saying that. Whilst the game is a shadow of what it used to be, I still get a great joy out of working in the Buzz and writing about it. For my first article, I thought I would interview the newest additions to the Help Desk crew, and see how they were getting on.

“What motivated me? Well, I thought that I had something more to offer than the current HDOs, such as being a web designer myself. I know how the bits that you can't see work. Also, I have been playing since 2004, and felt I could do a good job sharing my knowledge of the game to the community,” said xLew. Upon hearing the question, Altro answered, “I was told by a few people to apply, so I did. I never thought I would actually get the position, but I am glad I have.” CustomStyle said, “I felt I could do something different on the game. I have done many of the things that the game has to offer, so I decided that trying out for the HDO position was something of a new challenge for me and thought I would do a good job.”

Being chosen out of an estimated hundred players has to feel good, so we asked the HDOs what it felt like for them. First up was Altro, who said, “I didn’t feel special really, I believe I got picked mainly for the work I put in to my help site. It probably made my application stand out more than others.” A while after Altro answered, CustomStyle replied, “It's an honour. Because a lot of people out there could be considered for the position, and I know they could do a great job at it. So I appreciate the opportunity and hope to make the best of it.”

“I think I add a new perspective to the team, and I’m someone who can be online at different times than some of the other HDOs. We currently have a great team of HDOs, who could easily do an awesome job without me, but I hope to complement their work and be someone that people can come to when they need help, which has been the case so far,” said CustomStyle. Lew said, “I believe I add a somewhat technical edge to the team.”

Starting a new job can be hard. Getting the hang of it; making friends with the current staff. So, we asked the ‘new’ HDOs what the job has been like so far. Lew said, “there is less work involved than what I was expecting. Some of you may not know that HDOs don't have to monitor the forums as a part of their role, they only do so when their instructed to by a forum infraction ticket, or when they are posting on the game forum themselves.” CustomStyle was the next to answer, saying, “It has been a great experience. It has been fun getting to know people, be it Elite Guard or HDOs, who I didn’t talk to that often in the past. You also get to know a lot of different people when they BM you for help, becoming friends with some of them.”

It’s been a few months since the HDOs were hired, so for our final question, we asked them what their highlight so far was. Altro said, “I haven't really had any highlights. Many people expect me to be talking to the Moderators every day or dealing with important issues. I haven't had to BM a Moderator once, yet. Just tickets and forums, that is all.” Also answering, Lew said, “being below Sean on the help desk. He always likes it on top!”

The Buzz hope that we have given you an insight into how the new HDOs are dealing with their position. With the answers given, it seems like they’re all enjoying it. According to them, it adds something new to the game. Thanks for reading, and goodnight!
