Too Little, Too Late? BuzzPoison

For those of you who missed the topic in the game forum or didn’t read the article written by Vanish somewhere above this one in this week’s Buzz, I’ve taken the key summary from the aforementioned game forum topic for you:

Mika wrote:
A player's new account is legible to be boosted if:
  • The killer is permanently banned
  • The killer's appeal has been declined
  • The killer's ban is not a 'three strikes' offense (ie. not harassment)
  • The new account of the killed player is on the same e-mail address as the dead account
  • The cause of the killer's ban was committed before the kills
  • The account was killed within 24 hours of the killer's ban

Boosted accounts will be reimbursed with regards to:
  • Experience
  • Bullets
  • Cash on hand as well as banked money
  • Gun and shooting skill
  • Protection (up to 100% protection health)

So, simply put, if you are killed by someone who cheated in order to kill you and they are caught then you will be given your old account back with a new account name, basically. And while on the whole this change was welcomed by players many thoughts that this action was taken too late to save what many see as a dying game.

The issue is that the players who have in the past been accused of cheating to make kills, and some say who have forced the hands of Moderators in making this change, already have enough of a stranglehold on the game to no longer need to cheat in any way in order to kill players. They now have the resources to make kills with funds and accounts already in existence (whether by legitimate means or not).

Many commented that this is the sort of rule change that will only become useful when a reset happens, giving everyone a level playing field to start out again, and I agree entirely, but without a whole bunch of new features, a show of commitment from certain staff members and a real boost to player morale I fear that the title may have said it all; Too Little, Too Late.

However, even if this rule is something that may not become useful until a new reset, the show of intent from Moderators and indeed BSF (as he had to code a Moderator CP control for this to happen), is a very positive thing to see... maybe we will see fresh features, fresh or reinvigorated staff and a revitalised game...

I wait with baited breath.
