The BootCast: Looking for Player Tips! Shaktoolik
Just like the Buzz, the BootCast is a feature that is presented by players for the players. It is quite logical that both features want to improve themselves where- and whenever possible. The BootCast Head DJ, Mags (Magsnificent), felt that the amount of listeners (or the listener base) should increase. In an attempt to make that happen, he created a Game Forum thread and asked the players what they would like to see added or changed. As the Buzz supports the BootCast, we caught up with Mags and asked him some questions about the improvements he might have in mind and the tips he is hoping to be given.

“Ok listener levels are down. The bootcast is online more often than it used to be. So where are we going wrong?” Mags questioned at the beginning of the interview. “What does the bootcast need for the people to come back to it?” is the question he asked the players in his thread on the Game Forum. He gave us a short overview of the tips he had already gathered:

Mags wrote:

1. An increase in the bitrate of the stream. Better sound better show??
2. A variety of themed shows including say 80's music shows.
3. DJ's that play set genre's so that the players know exactly what type of music will be played each show. Couple this with the dream of a schedule 1 day and a public listing of DJ's.
4. More talk less music. Many people would like to hear the bootcast become a talk show with only minor amount of music played. When the person is on their own that's easier said than done. So maybe DJ's need to pair up again and do duo-DJ shows.
5. Bootcast to read out the news on a regular basis. Whether it be a summary of the days activities on boot or a monologue using the buzz as material.
6. Player interviews. Staff interviews.
7. A break away from giveaways. Giveaways attract listeners for the wrong reasons. They are an insult to the DJ and to the people who regularly listen to the bootcast.



Some of the ideas were already discussed in the Game Forum and the second idea for example already received support from several other players. Mags added, “I am sure there are more ideas floating around and well I am looking for valid realistic ideas to try and kick the bootcast back into gear.” So, what would we like you to do?
