What makes a good leader? It has been said that some are born with the right qualities and some develop them. Either way, we all eventually find ourselves in a leadership position.
I asked a few boss' the following question:
What do you think is the Main Quality that you need to have to:
A - Become a leader?
B - Become a good leader?

A - All it takes to become a leader is to have enough resources. With that you can "buy" your leader position.
B - That's a complete different thing. It isn't something you can do on your own, it's all about the people you are working with. You need capable people around you who can help you leading a group of people, it's a busy job so i wouldn't be able to do this alone. Other things which i consider as important are experience, knowledge and the support of the group of people you are leading.

To be a leader you have to be willing to put others before yourself. Be responsible for not only yourself but for your entire organization. A good leader is one who is willing to make tough decesions.

I have discovered the following works for me.
- Develop a plan then work the plan. Have a backup plan!
- Be the best you can be in everything you do.
- Reward and recognize others.
- Be committed to your responsibilities.
- Be a mentor to others, even when they do not know it.
- Be driven by principle. Remember, it is not who is right that is important but what is right.
