Over the past few weeks, Ive noticed a lot of people have been criticizing Nyxxie in regards to the weekly Bootleggers Buzz. In light of this, I decided to interview Nyxxie to get an insight of what its like to be the Editor of the Buzz:
What's it like to be the editor of the Buzz?:
I was sitting here for a good minute or two and couldn't really sum up the job. Although at times it is really rewarding (when a big issue is out and everyone praises myself and the team), there are far too many times when I feel very under appreciated by the players. I spend at least 4-6 hours a week trying to perfect the Buzz into its finished product and my only hope is that everyone likes it.
Is it a 'high pressure' job?
The Bootleggers players are a hard bunch to impress and I have been trying to complete this daunting task for a good year and a half. Sometimes I feel like I accomplish it, other times I feel as if I haven't. The hardest thing to do is to impress, and that is when the pressure sets in.
Do you face a lot of criticism? And what do you think of your critics? Do they have the right to criticize?
Everyone has the right to criticize because everyone has an opinion and with an opinion comes the ability to express it. I always have a lot of criticism from the players. Either my issues are too small, or their too big. Sometimes the factual part of an article is a little lacking and I take the brunt of the criticism due to it. However, this is what comes with the job. I do believe people should cut me some slack once in a while and realize that I have been doing this for a year and a half without missing one article and I still truck along with a smile on my face. I am doing my best; I don't get paid for what I do.
Do you think people understand the job you do?
No, I believe the job of a Buzz Editor (along with the job of a Moderator and HDO) is very misunderstood. I guess this is a great case of you just don't know what we go through until you're in our shoes.
Do you have trouble finding new writers?
Finding new writers, willing to dedicate time to the Buzz, with a good understanding of the English language and a good journalistic writing is hard to find. No one wants to put in the effort and when I find someone who does-- life takes a toll on them and I end up losing my greatest writers. Life happens, I understand that and I cannot do anything about it.
What do you do in your spare time?
What spare time! Aside from doing what I do on Bootleggers (Buzz and an HDO), I live on my own and have to maintain a full time job to afford a roof over my head and food on the table. I try to have a social life, but that mainly only ever consists of weekend visits to the family and such.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Nope! Great questions, you should work for the Buzz.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Theres an insight of what its like to be the Editor of the Buzz. A job which, I guess, will always have critics who dont understand the day to day pressures of the job.
