Revenge is a Meal Best Served Cold! Pt. 3 FrankxLucas

April 23, 1921

I could see the lights of the train station along the horizon above the hill just before we entered a thick wooded area. I was fixated on what looked to be fireflies passing very fast in front of the windshield, while I was enjoying the cool night air whooshing across my face, and thinking about my new life. When Tony let out a blood curdling yelp, I slammed on the breaks and yell, what the hell is the matter with you!? It was then I noticed blood coming out of his right shoulder. I..I…I don’t know what that was, Tony says. Just then something in the rear view mirror caught my eye and I saw several sets of head lights moving towards us extremely fast . Now that the engine was low idling and there was no wind in my ears. I could hear that those weren’t fireflies passing… Those were bullets!!! I don’t know what it was that caused me to freeze, but Tony had to yell, DRIVE. Dammit!!!! In order for me to snap out of it. I pressed the gas pedal as hard as I could, and we took off like a jack rabbit from a hound. By now Tony was hanging out of the car window firing back at the cars that were shooting at us. Our car must have been faster than theirs or maybe we had our guardian angels that night as we sped thru those unfamiliar winding roads up that hill. I say that because after about twenty minutes of them chasing us I could no longer see them through the dust clouds behind us. It wasn’t until we arrived at the train station that we realized how lucky we were, all four of our tires had been flattened by the passing bullets, and In the dark I counted over fifteen holes in our car. We heard the trains whistle blow twice, which meant we had ten minutes to load up our crates or spend the night in this hell hole.

After we finally got to our seats I was so tired and hungry that I would’ve gladly even eating the cold slop that Mrs. Baker served for lunch at the old school house I went to when I was younger, but I would have to settle for nothing tonight. I begin helping Tony clean the bullet hole in his shoulder. I’m lucky it went straight thru, those bastards were out to kill us!!! We could have died Franky… we coulda died Frank, Tony said. I was scared and could feel the tears whelming up in my eyes but I brushed them away and told him, but we didn’t!! we’re bullet proof!!!… or at least I am, I said laughing. We were both surprised when we saw Clyde and several others walking towards us on the train. I begin to stand, but he told me to please stay seated. As he sat across from us, we filled him in on all that had taken place since we last saw him. He told us he thought we did the right thing, then he slapped his knees and begin laughing hysterically, and so did the guys who were with him. He said, Look at you two, had your first shoot out, you both are now officially THUGS!!!,He said still laughing. Once we get to Colorado we’re gonna get yall into some of the finest suits this side of the Mississippi, I like you too much to loose you on a boo’s run like this. I want to see if you’re cut out to be Gangsters. Get some rest tonight , I will fill you in on what I need you to do next in the morning. Don’t worry about the moonshine, my boys will take it from here. As he was leaving he turned around and said I almost forgot. He tossed us each a stack of fifteen one hundred dollar bills and said. Good job boys, keep it up and you’ll be millionaires. In disbelief I said Thanks and tucked the money into my pants. Tony and I talked for what felt like hours. We were living the life, I was finally going to have everything I ever wanted. I laid my head on the window, and even though I had a million thoughts racing through my head. I was able to find some sleep.
