On July 22nd, a game forum topic was made regarding how slow it seems to rank on Bootleggers considering the supposed high price of ranking, purchasing equipment and bullets. I decided to put my money where my mouth is and attempt to make it in the game as a new player, knowing no one and having nothing. Can I do it? We'll see. It's either make it or break it and I will be journaling my progress day by day, week by week for the Buzz. Keep in mind, no one knows who I am and I intend to keep it that way. This account will be completely separate from my moderator account and in no way, shape or form, will the two intertwine.
A week's blogging will run from Sunday to Saturday. The project will end when I die, reach N. Don or have player's lose interest in the article and project itself. This is a continuation of prior article(s).
July 25, 2010 - Day 4
Today I started off by taking a stab in the dark. With my Hitman ranked account, I messaged a Don looking for a Don+ OC. Being nice, I asked for an OC, stating that I'd be a driver for free and I would buy my own equipment. Before I knew it, I had myself a high ranked OC! Schweet! It didn't hurt to ask, and I believe as long as you're nice, you can get really far. The OC consisted of one Don, one Legendary Godfather and one Godfather and, to make things even better, the leader gave me 20%, earning me back all my money plus 10k!
For the rest of the day, I did some Crimes and Auto Burglaries.
The Day's Overview
Rank(s) Achieved: None
Crimes successful/completed: 70/251
Auto Burglary Percentages: 1,4,3,5,2 - respectively
Arm Wrestling Statistics: Flyweight Level 2 43%
Organized Crimes Successful/Total: 5/5
Total Cash: $67,564

July 26, 2010 - Day 5
Today I joined an OC to Penny. I traveled from Nevada to Pennsylvania with 15 crates of Gin and made a profit of ~$140 on each. My OC leader was an Assassin and I was joined with a Legendary Godfather and another Hitman. I made a profit of more or less $13,000 and then continued to do crimes and auto burglaries. Damn, I'm starting to wish Arm Wrestling was available in jail.
I stole my first car today while at a success rate of 5%. It was a Starpegasus with 1% damage. Not that bad. I shipped it to NJ where it would take 18 minutes and $3. Cheap! When I could travel again, I bought some booze and traveled to NJ where I got caught with my booze and was put in jail for 30 seconds, losing all my booze and the 2.5k I put into purchasing it. Hopefully I'll make it back with today's crimes and the selling of the car I stole.
The Day's Overview
Rank(s) Achieved: None
Crimes successful/completed: 136/358
Auto Burglary Percentages: 14,18,16,18,17 - respectively
Arm Wrestling Statistics: Flyweight Level 4 - 3%
Organized Crimes Successful/Total: 6/6
Total Cash: $114,454

July 27, 2010 - Day 6
Today, I woke up and did a booze run from Colorado to Nevada where I OC'd. I was only offered 15% to drive and ended up only profiting around 1k. Eh, at least I Oc'd and didn't see a decline in my money margin. The rest of the day, I plan to do crimes and auto burglaries. At this point, I'm banking on the hope that I can actually steal a car worthy to sell.
The rest of my day consisted of Auto Burglaries (where I stole a Beauford and successfully sold it) and crimes. I ranked to Assassin seconds before I decided to call it quits for the night!
The Day's Overview
Rank(s) Achieved: Assassin
Crimes successful/completed: 200/435
Auto Burglary Percentages: 21, 22, 20, 21, 21 - respectively
Arm Wrestling Statistics: Flyweight Level 5 - 63%
Organized Crimes Successful/Total: 7/7
Total Cash: $169,858

July 28, 2010 - Day 7
Today is one full week that I decided to do this and in a week, I have made it all the way to Assassin (not including today's work). I started off my day today with an OC with three other Assassins making myself more or less $30,000 in profit. It was a decent way to start my day. I believe today I will be devoting to Crimes, Auto Burglaries, Arm Wrestling and when all allow me to continue without jailing myself, jail busting. We'll see how it goes and I'll report any interesting events I come across, if any, today.
I guess not. LOL
The Day's Overview
Rank(s) Achieved: None.
Crimes successful/completed: 221/475
Auto Burglary Percentages: 29, 30 ,27, 27, 38 - respectively
Arm Wrestling Statistics: Flyweight Level 7 - 93%
Organized Crimes Successful/Total: 8/8
Total Cash: $196,144

July 29, 2010 - Day 8
Today I started off kind of late. I've been busy helping people in the game and grab their barrings regarding the upcoming giveaway. Needless to say, I don't think I'll rank at all today. Today, as per usual, I traveled with some Booze to my Organized crime where the highest rank was a Legendary Godfather and the lowest was a Thug. My net profit was more or less $20,000.
The Day's Overview
Rank(s) Achieved: None.
Crimes successful/completed: 240/500
Auto Burglary Percentages: 31, 32, 32, 29, 32 - respectively
Arm Wrestling Statistics: Flyweight Level 8 - 97%
Organized Crimes Successful/Total: 9/9
Total Cash: $245,384

July 30, 2010 - Day 9
Today I completed one OC, one booze run and a few crimes. I have been busy both in real life and on my Moderator account. I guess we all eventually come across some days we can't log in and do as much as we'd like, and I guess today (and probably tomorrow) is one of those days.
The Day's Overview
Rank(s) Achieved: None
Crimes successful/completed: 261/535
Auto Burglary Percentages: 36, 40, 39, 39, 40 - respectively
Arm Wrestling Statistics: Lightweight Level 10 - 1%
Organized Crimes Successful/Total: 10/10
Total Cash: $276,065

July 31, 2010 - Day 10
Between having company over today and the iPod bustout giveaway, I rarely had time to log in today! I decided that today I would start my own OC and see how easy it was to get higher ranks to join me, with the incentive of a higher percentage. Needless to say, despite that, it was hard. I was being ignored and my high percentages weren't appealing to anyone. Finally, after about 45 minutes or so, I Oc'd with two dons and a Hitman, but gave them all 30%, leaving me with a very low percentage and NO return. To add, I didn't even rank!
I do, however, have a few cars up for sale that will earn me a pretty penny and I hope I can make up for my loss quickly. I never realized putting together an Organized Crime was so difficult. Everyone wants to max percentage they can get and it leaves nothing for you, that is, if you want anyone at all with a higher rank to join and partake.
Luck has seemed to turn around a bit. I just stole my first Penny Duesenberg and have shipped it to Louisiana! I hope to sell it soon and make a nice profit!
The Day's Overview
Crimes successful/completed: 297/579
Auto Burglary Percentages: 42, 45, 44, 45, 43 - respectively
Arm Wrestling Statistics: Lightweight, Level 11 - 18%
Organized Crimes Successful/Total: 11/11
Total Cash: $225,678

Overall Thoughts
So far, so good. I think that it has proven to be a daunting and tedious task to rank, but must be done for a new player. A lot of people have helped out as far as OC's go, but finding your own OC is very hard and time consuming. The majority of my money made is through Booze Runs, OCs and car sales. Even with the crumbiest of cars, I ship to a nearby state and sell it back to the game (not via sell page) to even make a 200-300 dollar profit. I believe this little extra bit will help in the long run and it is something not a lot of people do.
We'll see where next week brings me! Until then! Good luck to all of you, myself included!
